YETI Natural Selection Ski 2025 Recap
In late March, Pulseline Adventure provided guiding and logistical support for Travis Rice's brainchild - the Natural Selection Tour - for the third time since 2022. This time, we teamed up with NST for the inaugural YETI Natural Selection Ski - a freeride ski competition held in Alaska's Tordrillo Mountains on terrain known as Priority 1 - a dreamy feature-laden face ideal for a competition of this nature.
NST assembled the world's top men and women skiers in slopestyle and freeride to tackle legendary Alaskan terrain. With cutting-edge filming techniques like high-speed drones, the event offered an immersive experience, showcasing every turn and air in stunning detail, bringing the beauty and skill of big mountain freeride skiing to life from deep within the remote Alaskan backcountry.
Competitors included the cream of the crop: Markus Eder, Kai Jones, Sam Kuch, Manon Loschi, Craig Murray, Max Palm (the son of Stefan Palm, one of our heliski guides), Michelle Parker, Kye Peterson, Colby Stevenson, Maggie Voisin, Hedvig Wessel, and Parker White - a truly stacked line-up. Meanwhile, freeskiing legend Mike Douglas directed the event.
The Tordrillo Mountains are located about 75 miles northwest of Anchorage. Without any roads, we moved more than 30 loads via helicopter and fixed-wing planes to the field and helped build a remote glacier camp for the staging of the event. In addition, we moved all of the guides, filming crew, judges, and competitors to and from the venue for the contest, and of course bumped the athletes to the start zones of their lines.
The production level was off the charts, as was the skiing. Hat's off to Liam Griffin, Travis Rice, Mike Douglas and the whole NST crew on manifesting such an incredible event. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out here on Red Bull TV.
